Mountain Visočica is a natural border between Herzegovina and Bosnia. It is divided from mountain Treskavica in the east by river Ljuta, on southern and southwestern side from mountain Prenj by river Neretva, and from mountain Bjelašnica in West and North by the canyon of river Rakitnica.
Visočica was probably named for its many high peaks. Visočica is a plateau that slopes from its northern peaks of around 1400 meters ASL to South – village Bjelimići, and then quite steeply up to Neretva valley. The slopes of Visočica in North and West head to the Rakitnica river. Center of the mountain is divided by Ljeljen ridge, where the highest peaks are Džamija (1967 MASL), Veliki (Great) Ljeljen (1963 MASL) and Mali (Small) Ljeljen (1860 MASL).

Northern part, 1300-1400 MASL, is rich with pastures, and southern part is covered with forests. Visočica area is quite poor with water. Springs are found mostly amongs sheperds yards, which are almost completely gone by now. Below the northern slopes of the mountain are villages Bobovica, Ozimine, Đulbašići, Pervizi i Sinanovići. Below southern slopes, there are more villages - Luka, Ježeprasina, Bjelimići, Gradeljina, Svijenča, Argud and in SW Dužani, Blaca, Dudle, Grušća and Prebilje.

Natural amphitheater is created by the surrounding peaks Vito ( 1960 MASL ), Subar ( 1820 MASL ), Veliko brdo ( 1884 MASL ) and Drstva ( 1808 MASL ) amongst which is Veliko jezero – Great Lake ( 1660 MASL ). In the southern part of mountain, below Ljeljen ridge, NE of Veliki Ljeljen peak is Veliko jezero (Great Lake) or Kolečića bara (Kolečića pond) – on 1670 MASL. Those springtime lakes, though, tend to dry out quickly in the summer.

Anfahrt

There are marked trails going from Mountain lodge Vrela (Tušila) all the way up to Drstva, Prut, Vito and Džamija peaks.

There are several paths to Vito peak, depending on the season and physical conditions:

Go from mountain hut Vrela in Tušila 1200 MASL (offers accommodation and great food) – across the road next to new mountain hut, where you turn right and follow marks through the forest, all the way to the water fountain below peak Jelovača – 1569 MASL, after which you reach amphitheater surrounded by Mokre stijene, Subar and Vito. There is a small junction – Subar is on the right, Vito is straight. You climb up the steep slope between Vito and Mokre stijene. When you reach the top of the ridge, Vito is on the right side. It has a wonderful view on Bjelašnica and the villages Lukomir, Treskavica, Zelengora, Čvrsnica. On the south side of Vito is a spring Vukova voda (Wolf’s water). Walking time is appx 3 hours.

Another way has the same beginning, but in the amphitheater you follow marks to Subar, and then to Vito, over the ridge. Final ascent to Vito ridge is very steep, covered with grass, so it can be very dangerous if it rains, but in the winter, it is a real alpine desert. Walking time app 3,5 hours.

From mountain hut Vrela in Tušila, you can also go left towards the fence over the slope. Before the top of the slope, turn right toward a glade, where you will find markings for the peak Drstva. Before the exit to the amphitheater surrounded by peaks Subar, Vito, Drstva, Veliko and Malo brdo is a fountain below Očkovica. There is a Great Lake (Veliko jezero). You go right to Drstva and then over Malo and Veliko brdo (Small and Great hill), then cross the ridge and reach Vito. Walking time app 4,5 hours.
