We hiked the Via Dianarica in September/October 2020 and we really enjoyed the wilderness, lovely people and there hospitality, good food along the trail. Bad heather periods we used to get known a bit more the culture and some villages/cities of these mostly unknown balkan countries - we will definitely come back! If you're looking for an adventure without overcrowded trails, sometimes no or overgrown trails then you will love it. If you're looking for clean trails, open huts, partys, perfect trail markings, then your're maybe wrong. Some experiences: There are many overgrown paths, mainly in North Croatia, so we sometimes bypassed these sections on (gravel) roads. The Velebit section is one of the Via Dinarica highlight. After the Velebit to the Bosnian border there are about 200km roads and gravel roads. It's the Dinara between which is really worth, hope there will be an alternative route in future. The Bosnian part is very vell maintained due to a UNDP project. We loved the hospitality and the warmth of the local people. Montenegro enchants with its huge plateaus. In October the days are getting short and temperatures got really cold, so we couldn't climb the highest peak in Albania anymore.
