Sutjeska National Park is proud of its history as the oldest and largest national park in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The highlights are seven beautiful glacial lakes of Zelengora popularly called ‘mountain eyes’, Trnovačko lake in Montenegro and Maglić – the highest summit of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This is “hiking only” option and includes one or two night in the camp. Pick-ups (4x4) are possible from 5 locations along the trail. It is possible to organize warm meals and catering at the huts managed by National Park.
Day 1 – Driving to Obalj village (Kalinovik municipality) and hiking to Kladopoljsko lake at Zelengora mountain passing by Čengića bara necropolis - a UNESCO heritage site. Camping close by the lake.
Hiking time 3 h.
Day 2- Hiking via Zelengora via Drhtar ridge to Kotlaničko and Štirinsko lake, by Jugovo lake to Orlovačko lake. Staying for a night in Park’s mountain hut. Highlights – four lakes, WWI monuments and Stirine necropolis.
Hiking time 6-7 h.
Day 3- Climbing highest peak of Zelengora – Bregoč (2014 m) and descending to the central part of the Park. Hiking over Uglješin summit down to Gornje Bare lake. This long and hard day ends up in mountain hut located on the shore of Donje Bare lake.
Hiking time 10 h.
Day 4- Descending down to Sutjeska gorge and follow regional road to Dubrovnik for about 40 min (transfer possible). Hiking from Suha valley along the edge of Peručica primeval forest to Prijevor – mountain pass beneath Maglić summit (possible overnight stay in mountain huts). Continue hiking to Trnovačko lake. Spending night in the camp at the side of one of the most beautiful lakes in the Balkans.
Hiking time 8 h.
Day 5- Ascent to highest summit of Bosnia and Herzegovina over steep, but not technical slopes. Climb down the other route via cable secured trail (NOTE: technical and challenging). Option is to descend back the same way.
Transfer down to Tjentište valley. Lunch and transfer back to Sarajevo.
Hiking time 6-12 h. Driving time to Tjentište 45 min.
Transfers and services on the fifth day are subject to prior agreement.
