Blagaj area is characterized by a diversity of surface and underground waters. The source of the River Buna is one of the largest and most beautiful river sources in Europe. Rising under a 200m cliff, the river flows for 9 km to the west before joining the Neretva River near the Buna village. The River Buna and Blagaj area have abundance and diversity of flora, including a number of endemic plant species. In addition, the Buna is home for trout, a delicious must-try specialty served in many traditional riverside restaurants. There is also a Dervish tekke /monastery/ built directly at the Blagaj springs. The tekke existed in mid 17th Century, which was recorded by Evlija Ćelebija, a travel writer.

The Bunica River is the left tributary of the Buna, located 4 km from Blagaj center. It has a large 40m wide source and contrary to the Buna its 7 km long watercourse runs through gorgeous rugged landscape.

By road

Blagaj sits at the source of the Buna in the heart of Herzegovina. To get there take the M17 Road. The Buna Springs are 12 km southeast of Mostar.
