One of the most monumental pieces of architecture in BiH is certainly the bridge of Mehmed Paša Sokolović in Višegrad, also known as ''the bridge on the Drina''. It was built between 1571 and 1577 by the most significant Turkish architect of that time, Mimar Sinan. Built in the eastern style, it represents a masterpiece of construction of that time. It has 11 arches with a gentle slope towards the center, and a descending ramp onto the left bank. It once connected Bosnia to Tsargrad and today it is a place visited by numerous tourists, travelers, artists and lovers of history and architecture. At the same time, it is one of the major national monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in the year 2007.

It became a legend through the local writer Ivo Andrić, who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1961 for his novel ''The Bridge on the Drina''.

Visegrad can be reached by bus from several directions, daily from East Sarajevo (06:30, 15:00), Banja Luka (09:00), Trebinje (08:00, 21:45), Belgrade (07:00, 17:40, 20:00, 22.00), Uzice (7:30, 10:00, 15:00) and Nis (21:00).
