The littoral ecosystems see the development of moist loving hydrophilus plant and animal communities. Among different groups of insects (Psihodida, Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera, Ortoptera, Ropalocera), there is a variety of endemic forms and Tertiary relicts. Particularly significant is large salmonid fish family, including the huchen and brown trout, which preserved the pure natural lines of gene pool.
The waterside habitat of deep canyons contains rich natural gene pool of unexplored species with a valuable industrial potential, such as the wild cherries, wild apples, wild pears, Mahaleb (St. Lucy's) cherry, rowan, raspberry, blackberry, quince, walnut tree. A high degree of taxonomic biodiversity prevails in spatial and temporal organization through numerous ecosystems forming the landscape mosaic of the Drina watershed.
Public transport
From Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Trebinje, Belgrade, Novi Sad or Niš take the bus to Višegrad.By train: from the Sarajevo Main Train Station (120 km).
By road
By car: take the M5 Road from Sarajevo to Višegrad (120 km) or from Belgrade via Čačak and Užice (280 km).Višegrad is located at the easternmost part of Republika Srpska.
