Boračko jezero se nalazi na nadmorskoj visini od 402 metra i pruža se u pravcu sjeverozapad-jugoistok. Jezero je okruženo Crnom Gorom na jugozapadu, Tranjinom na istoku, prevojem Košute na jugoistoku a sa sjevera ga od Boraka odvaja strmi Krstac. Geološku podlogu ovog područja čine dolomiti i dolomitizirani krečnjaci.

U Boračko jezero se ulijevaju vode Boračkog potoka, vode desne pritoke iz rejona Boračke Drage, vode priobalnih, obalnih i podvodnih izvora. Voda iz jezera se ulijeva u rijeku Šišticu koja se nizvodno, nakon toka kroz klisuru, putem vodopada ulijeva u Neretvu u području poznatom kao Mali kanjon.

Od ribljeg fonda utvrđene su sljedeće vrste: potočna pastrmka, kalifornijska pastrmka, jezerska pastrmka, šaran, babuška, klijen, gagica i pliska.

Boračko jezero je poznato odmaralište i izletište koje posjećuju domaći i strani turisti, sportisti, planinari, ribolovci i mnogi drugi. U blizini se nalazi prostor za kampovanje, vikendice, bungalovi, apartmani, velika plaža i sportski tereni.
