Ogulin is a picturesque town below the mountain of Klek, on the boundary between the regions of Lika and Gorski kotar. The center of Ogulin consists of King Tomislav's Park and the Frankopan fortress from the beginning of the 16th century, housing the Regional Museum today. Opposite to the Frankopan fortress in the very center of the town, there is an abyss 50 meters deep, called Đulin ponor (Đula's Abyss). It is named after the city captain's daughter who threw herself into the abyss over a broken love. Đulin ponor is also one of the entrances to the Đula – Medvedica cave system. Underground channels of this system are over 16 kilometers long, forming the largest cave system in Croatia. The Dobra River disappears in the abyss right below the fortress, and springs again near Tounj.

Ogulin is an important site for mountaineers, since this is where the development of Croatian mountaineering and alpinism began in 1874. The Regional Museum of Ogulin houses the alpinist collection. In addition to it, other prominent cultural sites include the memorial room of the author Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić, and the room where Josip Broz Tito was incarcerated for one month. The alpinist collection includes interesting exhibits such as diaries and shoes of first climbers on Klek; a stone from the peak of Mount Everest, brought by the renowned climber Stipe Božić; documents and photographs from Croatian expeditions to the Himalayas, and many other exhibits.
