Krajačev kuk is clearly visible as an impressive presence in the southern area of Rožanski kukovi. It consists of two pronounced peaks attracting attention of hikers along the Premužić Trail with their picturesque nature and position. Krajačev kuk was named after Ivan Krajač, president of the Croatian Mountaineering Society, who first described the peak, and who, in his capacity as minister in the government of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, ensured funds needed for the construction of the tourist trail along the peak area of Velebit based on the design by Ante Premužić.

View:  Krajačev kuk offers a wonderful view of all the peaks of Rožanski kukovi and Hajdučki kukovi, and also of Veliki Kozjak.

Seal: Metal seal is on the peak.

Getting there

Approaches:
  • Veliki Lubenovac – Krajačev kuk 1.30 h
  • Mountain hut Alan – Krajačev kuk 2 h

The best approach is from Veliki Lubenovac, since it is shorter than the approach from the mountain hut Alan. From the charred remnants of the mountain hut at Veliki Lubenovac, we need to take the road towards the northwest. After 10 minutes, at an intersection, a marked route towards Alan branches to the left, but we continue straight, and then – immediately after a sharp right turn – we turn left from the road and follow the markings. The route gradually ascends, constantly through the forest, to the southern base of Krajačev kuk. On one spot before the pass, the route branches: the connection with the Premužić Trail continues straight (10 to 15 minutes of hiking), and the climb to Krajačev kuk proceeds to the right. This route connects with another shortcut from the Premužić Trail and leads along the side of the largest rocky peak, ascending through the thicket to the peak itself.
