Orlovača is the most interesting peak of Trtar, although it is not the highest. The seals of Orlovača or Krtolin are equally valid for Trtar as a checkpoint of the Croatian Hiking Tour (HPO). Near Orlovača, there is the mountain shelter Zlatko Prgin. The simplest way for hikers who reach the peak ridge of Trtar by car to find the shelter is by looking for a signpost directing visitors to the shelter. The signpost is located near the 9th wind turbine of the Trtar-Krtolin wind power plant, looking from the place where the road reaches the ridge of Trtar (at the quarry).

View: When the weather is clear, the peak offers views ranging from Velebit to the mountains of Bosnia, the archipelago of Kornati and the distant island of Svetac, in addition to the areas surrounding the peak.

Seal: Box with the register book and the seal is on the peak.

Getting there

  • Mountain hut Ćićo – Orlovača 1 h
  • Protege – Orlovača 1.15 h

Just like with the excursion to the Krtolin peak, the best option to get to Orlovača is to begin the climb in Rupići below Trtar, from the mountain hut Ćićo. We can reach Rupići on foot from Šibenik, along the route of the educational ecological trail Ante Frua, or by car. There are several marked trails ascending from the mountain hut to Trtar. The most popular route options are the route leading from the mountain hut to the right, across the pond, and the route that leads from the mountain hut to the left, across an observation post from the Homeland War called Oko sokolovo (Hawk Eye) and then further along the ridge to the Orlovača peak. Slightly below the peak, there is the simple mountain shelter Zlatko Prgin, managed by members of the mountaineering club HPK Sveti Mihovil from Šibenik. There is a road leading from Protege to Trtar, built for the purposes of the quarry and the wind power plant. The road reaches the ridge half way between Orlovača and Krtolin.
