The monastery on the coast

In addition to Illyrian, Greek and Roman cultural classes, in Paštrovići today has more than sixty Orthodox churches and Crkvina seven monasteries. Only Paštrovska monasteries, about which the public does not have complete and accurate information, represent the most valuable monuments in this area. Near the main street, the city hotel overlooking Sveti Stefan, it is Praskvica, most famous and most important Paštrovska monastery. For centuries this sanctuary has been the religious, political and cultural center of Paštrović. It brought with it fateful political decisions, educated generations at the convent school, frescoes, illuminated and painted with icons. According to folk tradition, the birth year of Praskvica is considered to be 1050. - Assuming less time to build a monastery church. The present complex of Praskvica consists of two churches - dedicated to Sv. The Trinity and the Great, the hl. Dedicated Never; conical building; the old school building and the monastery cemetery. Name of the shrine dates from the deep antiquity and is derived by the name of the eponymous source whose water tasted scratches or peaches. The current monumental temple is the result of reconstruction from 1847, for which the initiative gave monk Joseph Mitrovic, abbot of the monastery Sinesije Davidovic and all Paštrovići.
