Expansive landscapes of Piva plateau and villages with only few people residing are a special attraction of this region. A true mountain landscape where the highest peak of Durmitor, Bobotov kuk, with its 2523 meters above sea level, is seen above the Škrčka Lakes and is then replaced with the shade of dense forest of the Sušica canyon.

One of my favourite stages! I followed VD trail to Škrčko Jezero, then went south towards Bobotov Kuk. Last section to Samar pass is quite challenging (some light climbing) but the view from the pass is amazing! A trail makes the connection with Velika Previja, the pass below Bobotov Kuk. Did not have time to hike the peak but views are stunning even from the pass. Slept in Katun Lokvice (4 walls, a roof, a wooden bench to put your mat on; water a bit below the hut) and had a nice evening with other hikers camping there. Then went down to Žabljak the next morning. I really recommend this alternative route if you want to spend more time in Durmitor!

A beautiful stage! It starts at a plateau where you walk mainly on asphalt, but very beautiful non the less. Then go down a canyon, in order to go up later. And then they are there; the beautiful steep mountains! Very nice views! At the end of this route there is a beautiful lake! NOTES: - Guesthouse Nedajno is a nice place for a rest or sleep - PD Susica has water outside, but the hut was closed. Would be nice if contact info can be added to the waypoint. - PD Skrka is damaged, but one can still sleep inside if necessary. When we were there there was no water (september 2021). There are 2 lakes close by, but one needs a filter (cows roam there) - The small lake behind PD Skrka is very nice for camping. - The route goes straight up to Planinica peak, however there is also a route around (5,5 km) which is better we think. - From PD Skrka it is also possible to go to Bobotov Kuk (highest mountain Montenegro) and continue to Zabljak

Beautiful stage, well marked, hiked northbound. Descent from planinica to lakes is a bit adventurous: doable for us in trail runners with poles and about 8 Kilos backpacks not really dangerous but also not for the faint hearted. Lakes are an amazing reward. Underestimated the descent from the lakes to the campsite down at the dry lake. Takes some more time than it seemed.
