The first interesting thing you will see is Nula (Zero) Lake in Vareš. It was created on the surface burrow of the former iron ore mine. Continuing further, a small section of the trail follows the main road. From Rajčevac settlement, the suburbs of Vareš, starts well-marked trail towards Javorje mountain hut.

The trail goes uphill through the settlement and enters into dense coniferous forest. Soon after steping into the forest you will reach the spring where you can replenish your water supply.

From Javorje mountain hut you can hike to highest peak of the Zenica-Doboj Canton - Karasovina Peak (1472 m a.s.l.) It is an easy one hour walk. On the peak there is a great resting point with benches and tables.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the main road in Vareš turn left to the abandoned mine. Go through tunnel to exit to the Nula (Zero) Lake. Then go back again through tunnel, turn right and exit to the main road. Now you are exiting Vareš and heading to its suburbs. Go down the main road to the Rajčevac  settlement. On the 1.8 km  turn right into the settlment. The marked trail starts here. Go uphill through the settlement. After exiting Rajčevac the path goes uphill through the forest all the way to the hut. On the 2.4 km there is a spring, on the left, beside the path.

Just few meters before the hut there is a turning to the Karasovina Peak. The path to Karasovina Peak goes through the forest and across the meadows. There are two intersections. On the first there is a map of Perun mountain. Here turn left uphill through the forest. There is a signpost showing you the way to Karasovina Peak. After exiting the forest go across the meadow. Soon you will reach the singpost. Here turn left towards the Karasovina Peak. The peak is situated in the forest.
