BIKING: Postojna - Rakov Škocjan - Lake Cerknica - Javorniki - Postojna

The path will lead you from the town of Postojna (Sport Hotel) over the Javornik mountain chain to the largest disappearing lake in Europe – Lake Cerknica. The diversity of the lake can be seen in the museum Jezerski hram in the village of Dolenje jezero where a model of Lake Cerknica is exhibited and it explains the appearance and disappearance of the lake. The museum also has displayed the ethnological collection of accessories which were once used for fishing, livestock, hay and wood transportation. The path back to the town of Postojna will take you through the Nature park of Rakov Škocjan. The two-and-a-half-kilometre-long valley was formed by the collapse of the underground cave ceilings. Only the large and small natural bridges are what is left of the former vault of the underground hall. The River Rak flows through the valley and its bed is covered with an abundance of rock covered with moss which creates a touch of an unearthly appearance.
