The Land of Disappearing Lakes

The bike path of the land of the disappearing lakes takes you over the Javornik mountain chain on to the side of the River Pivka where the landscape is much more open and barren. Besides small villages where it seems as though time has stopped, the landscape is very inspiring mostly due to the disappearing lakes of Pivka – special karst phenomena. When it is raining springs and resurgences appear on the surface and they fill up the hollows. That is how seventeen disappearing lakes are formed. The most famous among them are Lake Petelinje and Lake Pelčje where you can watch birds and in the early mornings also game. Along the path you can relax with some horse riding at Prestranek Castle.
