Hi Paul, I took a bus from Ljubljana main station to Razdrto (right under the Nanos peak) it only took about one hour and it runs quite frequently. Tickets can be purchased at the station or with the driver.

I hiked the whole trail, as on the map. Trails are maintained, but on some parts not marked or is many of them, so app is a must. You hike quite a lot on asphalt and gravel roads, that's why I didn't really liked that trail (I know that Slovenia has much much more beautiful trails). But has some highlights as Snežnik, castle Snežnik, Cerknica lake, Nanos, Predjama castle, Rakov Škocjan, Križna cave (you can enter it just with a guide, so you need to reserve in advance, when I came it was closed, it's written that they'll open on 1st of June), Bloško lake, Križna mountain, Slivnica mountain. I hiked quite slow, because I wanted that my body get used to it so I needed 8 days. Slept in: by the road from Gorenje to Sv. Lovrenc (tent), Planina (friend's house), Dolenje Jezero (asked to sleep in a barn, you have rooms as well), by the Sv. Miklavž church next to village Ulaka (tent), glamping by Bloke lake (expensive, 30€ for a night), hostel in Podcerkev (15€/night), Sviščaki mountain lodge (you can eat here as well), Babno polje Drugi dom (20€/night, https://www.loskadolina.info/drugi-dom.html). Water is not a problem, because you pass by many villages where you can ask for water. You can also buy food in quite a lot of villages. Definitelly quite many bears aroud Snežnik, I met one. I think it's the best just to make some noise, sing a song or something like this, so they hear you in advance. They are very afraid of humans, so it's not a problem at all.

Just finished this part and really liked it (note that the route was updated and this section has different path compared to the map/gpx for full white trail, not sure why). There’s quite a lot of travel on gravel roads but I didn’t really mind since the nature was amazing, some asphalt roads, that makes it only 4*. Around Sneznik there definitely are bears (see photo), locals advised me to be a bit more noisy in the forest when walking alone and if you spot a bear make sure to respectfully avoid them or go back the way you came, I didn’t hang my food when camping wild and was told that bears avoid humans in the night as well. Most of the trail was well marked, not directly as VD but wasn’t really using the map too much. There was more places to shop food and water pumps in villages than I expected. Natural highlight for me were the Skocjan caves, just magical and accessible for anyone without tours or entry fees. I stayed at a hut on Slivnica mountain — super friendly, great food and views — and at Sviscaki (under Sneznik peak) — very cool little village with great hospitality. On the other hand I wouldn’t really recommend staying at Volčje lake as it’s super touristy and not really special. If you want to stay in a youth hostel there is one in Nova Vas called Old School Villa — I think the one in the description here is on the old trail, this one is the only one at the Bloke plateau. When I am back I might add more details/gpx waypoints to fkalab.wordpress.com

The climb up Nanos is an incredible way to start the trail— this section was gorgeous. Some manageable road walking around Predjama and Cerknica, but interesting sights. The feet will definitely feel the road walks of this segment. The climb up and down Spilnik is very poorly maintained. Going south bound, the way down was actually impossible to see in the deep prickly weeds and briars. It is possible to avoid it by following a small meadow trail to the south side of the mountain. (We found on Gaia gps) The peak is lovely, but only if you can get there. Spend some time exploring Rakov Skocjan Park if you can, it’s amazing! We visited Krizna Cave as well and it was very cool. The trail directly uphill southbound from Sneznik castle is very overgrown. We were not able to find a way around, but picked our way through. Sneznik peak was a highlight, however. Absolutely incredible, with beautiful trail as well! A wonderful farewell to Slovenia.
